If something has been a staple of our official communication / correspondence existence / protocol, it has been the ubiquitous email. I don’t think that there has been an enterprise or individual who has been able to work without it. It does not seem likely in the foreseeable future. How much have emails changed in the last quarter of century and we will struggle to find it out. There have been some ornamental changes and there has not been a marked increase in its utility or decrease in drudgery or any major efficiency change.
Small AI enabled changes are making some headway. They have not been the game changers. Will we continue with the feudal age email. It would not be an exaggeration if one says that with the current load of official communication on emails, it is certainly a challenge to deal with ease and efficiency. The mails need a paradigm shift for the age we live in, it is outmoded to say the least, in the ensuing AI age. Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis and Nobel Laureate recently said that he is so overwhelmed daily emails that he’d gladly “pay thousands of dollars per month,” just to be free of them.
Hassabis and team are working exactly on this; an AI-powered email system designed to do exactly that – take over the exhausting task of managing inboxes. What will the tool do, which is being planned by none other than Demis Hassabis? The tool will be aimed to help users manage their inboxes by automatically sorting through mails, replying to routine messages, and making sure that the important ones don’t get missed out. Demis says what he really wants is the generation email and that is exactly what he is working on.
The new system will not filter or manage emails but also generate responses that match the user’s writing style. The missed replies can be brought down considerably. The new email system comes shortly after Google introduced an AI mode in its search engine and chrome browser. It facilitates a chat like interface similar to OpenAI’s chatbot. Though the email project is the key focus, Hassabis emphasized that DeepMind’s broader mission remains ambitious. How do you view the AI trajectory in the foreseeable future? Hassabis says that although AI’s short-term impact might be overstated, it is likely to bring major long-term changes.
A MAILING SYSTEM IN TUNE WITH THE AI AGE IS THE NEED OF THE HOUR.
