The way AI would unfold and how the organisations would transform is in the realm of imagination. The challenge is that every IT company, tech leader and even lesser practitioners are charting out the AI trajectory to full finality, to score a few brownie points. The tech is in churning, the expertise mix is in churning, the business models are churning and so are the product development and use case cycles. Nonetheless what is agreed up is that exponential change is round the corner, and initial sturdy waves are already being felt.
As is being proclaimed that the Agentic AI revolution is round the corner, the world needs to sit and watch. A recent headline in CIO reads, “Microsoft sees AI agents shaking up org charts, eliminating traditional functions.” Top findings of Microsoft’s 2025 Work Trend Index indicate that corporate organisational charts will rapidly change and it would center on AI agents. The 2025 Work Trend Index is based on a survey of 31,000 employees in 31 countries. Assistant to a team member transformation has already happened and that too in collaboration with the human staff.
We can now see the emergence of “frontier companies” ahead of the AI curve. In frontier companies AI takes a significant role in leading the entire business workflow as a part of the team. 844 of the total respondents fell in this category. They look at the future positively. Most organisations would be forced to become frontier companies in the next 2 to 5 years, redefining employee roles. Companies leading in the pack are Bayer (product development), Dow Chemicals (delivery operations) and Wells Fargo (customer service). There is a significant increase in their use of AI agents. 46% of the leaders say companies are fully automating work processes using agents.
Microsoft predicts that the companies will change organisational structures accordingly. As we speak, 28% of managers already plan to hire a person in charge of a hybrid team and 32% are willing to hire an AI agent expert shortly. A new form of leadership is emerging termed as the ‘agent boss.’ Functions apart there is the possibility of new indicators emerging as “human-agent ratio.” A recent survey says 92% of the IT jobs will be transformed by AI and 74% of IT pros see AI making their skills obsolete. Organisations are being reorganised around AI capabilities, huge numbers of resources are coming from this field, AI agents apart. Who knows a new HR might crop up to manage AI agents. Given the tectonic change, the very framework of the organisations must change.
WHAT WOULD BE THE CORPORATE ORG OF FRONTIER COMPANIES A FEW YEAR DOWN THE LINE NO ONE KNOWS!
