SAFE SUPERINTELLIGENCE – THE AI MUSICAL CHAIR

If you have been following the AI world in the last few months, you will be forced to believe that however much sound and fury it would have generated, there are only a few AI leaders have the capability to make the AI dream a reality. Based on this fact and the companies know who they are, the AI tech leaders are making their moves. However much we might decry, the market forces will always rule the roost, and realignments of companies, their AI verticals, the consequent AI tech team boss and the financial resources laid out for them will decide the winners and also rans.

The musical chair in tech jargon is called poaching. With this revolving door happening, the companies having the shortall will have to realign to the best they can with the available resources. And now it is the turn of Safe Superintelligence to face music. Founded by Ilya Sutskever, former chief scientist and co-founder of OpenAI, is a highly focused AI start-up dedicated to developing superintelligent AI systems with safety as its core priority. For Sutskever, this happens to be the most important technical challenge of our time.

One AI musical chair headline blares, “Ilya Sutskever becomes the CEO of Safe Superintelligence after Meta poached Daniel Gross.” The backdrop is Meta poached Daniel Gross, a longtime entrepreneur and AI investor who had been the CEO of Safe Superintelligence. Daniel Levy, another co-founder will now serve as the President. The technical team will continue to report to Sutskever. Mark Zuckerberg has already brought Scale AI’s founder to his fold, what a small group of their lead engineers to Meta.

Meta Superintelligence, the new organisation of Mark Zuckerberg, Gross’ name has not been listed. Gross has not responded on this point to a well known American news channel. Meta had tried to acquire Safe Superintelligence as a part of his AI hiring blitz but Sutskever rebuffed those efforts. On Thursday, he confirmed that he intends to run the company as an independent organisation. His final thought on the subject is straight and clear, “We have the compute, we have the team, and we know what to do. Together we will keep building safe superintelligence.

AI VISION AND STRATEGY WILL BE KILLERS IN THE WINNING DAYS OF AI.
