SUPERINTELLIGENCE IS NOW IN SIGHT

Most interesting headlines today come out of the AI industry and amongst the recent ones is by an Indian origin AI researcher who ditched Sam Altman for Zuckerberg said, ‘Superintelligence is now in sight.’ What it means will take time for anybody to fathom out, with no parameters and nobody to certify, it keeps the AI pot boiling and that is what the world AI doyens and enterprise behemoths are bothered about. Needless to say it can take over the world like no other technology ever and products are falling out of the closet with astounding regularity.

In the backdrop of all this exponential trajectory of AI, the backend resources seem to be in a churning mode. OpenAI faces a major challenge at the hands of Meta in recent times it has poached many of its top AI researchers. If Sam Altman is to be believed Meta is offering new joiners for OpenAI signing bonuses of up to $100 million. One such employee who left OpenAI for Meta is Tarpit Bansal. He has been with the company since 2022. Why so much noise around him? What did he do at OpenAI to get this sort of attention?

Trapit is credited with kickstarting the ChatGPT maker’s reinforcement learning efforts alongside co-founder Ilya Sutskever. On X his credentials show that was a foundational contributor to the company’s first-ever reasoning model. Prior to joining OpenAI full time 2022, Bansal worked as a research intern at other major tech companies including Microsoft and Google. In an internal communication Zuckerberg announced that the company’s artificial intelligence efforts will now fall under a new group called Meta Superintelligence, which will be led by Wang, who is described by him as the “most impressive founder of his generation.”

In a post on X, Bansal wrote: “Thrilled to be joining @ Meta! Superintelligence is now in sight.”* What is the purpose of this group?* The group is tasked to build IA “superintelligence” systems that can complete tasks as well as, or even better than, humans. Wang’s team will include former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman, and who will partner with Alex to lead the group. Zuckerberg’s take on Superintelligence explains his new found serious passion. “As the pace of AI progress accelerates, developing superintelligence is coming into sight,” he wrote in the internal post. He said he is committed to doing what it takes for Meta to lead the way.

THE WORLD NEEDS TO KNOW THE PARAMETERS FOR QUALIFYING FOR SUPERINTELLIGENCE.

Have a nice evening.
