WHAT WILL PULL YOU THROUGH IN THE AI AGE?

The world has changed so dramatically in the last two and half years since the onset of ChatGPT on 30th of Nov. 2022 that it is beyond recognition today. The current phase of tech and the world can very easily be divided as pre and post ChatGPT world. For the purposes of timeline, ChatGPT can be treated as ushering in the AI age. The supersonic AI changes are there for everyone to experience and be mindful of it or else you might just miss out the lifetime opportunity and most likely the race too. What should today’s youth do to be a part of the race?

Who better to answer this question other than Demis Hassabis, the tech child, known for heading the global AI momentum since he founded DeepMind in 2010. DeepMind merged with Google in 2014 and the Alpha series is not unknown to anybody in the AI / tech world. Today he is tech general of Google’s battle for AI supremacy. Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis says, “Teens should be training to become AI ninjas.” Conversely, the truism reads, if they don’t consider learning AI tools, they would risk falling behind.

He gave an interesting analogy to prove his point. Millennials have already started feeling old, they had the internet and personal computers and the GenZ smartphones and tablets. Generative AI is the transformative technology of GenAlpha’s time, what option do they have but to embrace it and they should. Demis Hassabis was talking in the recent episode of “Hard Fork.” This podcast focuses on the future of technology. He says some jobs will get disrupted and “new, more valuable, usually more interesting jobs would get created.” There are genuine concerns about how AI would revolutionize the workplace and world at large.

Demis Hassabis is leading Google’s charge to the gaining the crown, Artificial General Intelligence, AGI. Leaving the long trajectory apart, he says, whatever happens with the AI tools, you’ll be better off understanding how they work, and how they will function and what you can do with them. He advised to those headed to college to “immerse yourself now” and strive to “become a sort of ninja using the latest tools.”* They should spend time “learning to learn.” All this does not mean abandoning the building blocks that make for a good STEM student. Getting good at coding and building up fundamental skills of success remain important.

ARE META SKILLS; CREATIVITY SKILLS, ADAPTABILITY, RESILIENCE ETC THE REAL BUILDING BLOCKS OF THE AI AGE?
