DEMOCRACY IN MOTION: AGGRESSIVE, AUDACIOUS, INDIFFERENT AND EXPLOITATIVE

What went wrong with one of the leading exit polls, the prima donna of that agency was discussing at length on the same channel he has an alliance with. Indians are known for defending the indefensible, he was no different. He could just have kept himself hidden for a few weeks at least. This is audacity at its peak. Anyone can take the Indian democracy for a ride, seems to be the running thread amongst them. TV anchors were singing in chorus only yesterday, today trying to transition to fake objectivity, as if they didn’t know what they were doing.

Today’s mandate is against the nature of democracy in motion; aggressive, audacious, indifferent and exploitative. Its manifestation has been all around. It has led to cartels being created and funded in a variety of ways, which on the face of it, would defy identification. What is mainstream about the mainstream media? Their source of funding and supplication. It even extends to headline management. Had social media not been there, we would have been forced to take mainstream media as the gospel truth. Investigative journalism has been given a quiet burial. Aggression is writ large all around the place. Anchors have different levels of it.

The spokespersons too. The tone and tenor is offensive. Where did they pick it from? Their political masters, who define the narrative of this nation, unfortunately. Some of their aggressiveness, at all levels of political leadership, could have sent you into tizzy. The expressions, unparliamentary and unconstitutional, to say the least, have been a shame on our democracy, which in the annals of history, will speak of how despicable our politics has been. From parliamentary sessions to passing bills to expelling MPs like cats and dogs can put scare in anyone amongst us thinking of taking a political plunge. Ordinance if you don’t like a judgement, can never be the spirit of law and constitutional review.

If you don’t like it further, you can make the bulldozer go amok. Though there are endless examples of indifference, yet the epitome was the second wave of Covid, when the government was to be found only while fighting oxygen battles in courts. What to say of Manipur case/s, women wrestlers and most recently the mass sex scandal of Karnataka? Indifference personified for what gains, God only knows. The political class has been adept in exploiting all governmental and public resources to the fullest. Now it is taken to the next level. Distribute tax payers money recklessly, and for the benefit the poor receive, he is expected to vote for you. The party and the leaders affix their names. One can go on and on about undemocratic manifestations of democratic governments. Has India voted against it? We deserve a truly robust democracy, to find solutions to our million woes.

TODAY’S MANDATE IS THE ELECTORATE’S PUSH TO KEEP THE MASSES AT THE CENTRE OF OUR DEMOCRACY.

Have a nice evening.
