MOONSHOT VOYAGES!
Moonshot can kindle or rekindle anyone and hence among the people thinking different moonshot has become a part of their common parlance. What is moonshot? In simple language it is a very challenging and innovative project or undertaking. Chandrayaan-3 has been a moonshot project literally and figuratively. Euphoria continues. The term moonshot is derived from Apollo 11 mission spaceflight project, which landed the first human on the moon in 1969. Understanding of moonshot has also changed with time. Originally, it meant “long shot”, in which the likelihood of great results is low, notwithstanding that “people still make an effort hoping for such an outcome anyway.”
What does moonshot stand for now? How can this thought process, facilitate in revolutionizing the world we live. Moonshot now “refers to new project that could have outstanding results after one intense, consistent effort.” President John F. Kennedy gave the famous moonshot speech in 1962 and fruition came in 1969. What he said can be our north star for all times; “We chose to go to the moon. We chose to go to the moon in this decade and do other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure best of energies and skills, because that challenge is one we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win.”
These words can very well define our existence today. Do we declare our moonshots, more so the governments? If they have how many of them have been achieved? Moonshot is a mindset which we have not inculcated in our tech culture. It is mundane camouflaged. The tech world globally has been full of moonshots which have brought the world to where are. The OpenAI projects stand testimony to the most recent of the moonshot achievements. The product being ChatGPT, a revolutionary large language model, which has been changing the way world accesses knowledge and works. What if we are able to search, locate, decern moonshot voyages?
A moonshot voyage is the journey of the moonshot achievement for its inception to completion. Most if not all, moonshots remain unknown till the time of its pathbreaking result reaching the public domain or its mammoth user get noticed. If we are able to filter the moonshot projects from the word go or from the initial stages, there is a likelihood of moonshot projects increasing by leaps and bounds. Many such voyages would be dying an early death, for lack of support and more often than not, it is financial. An ecosystem to support and facilitate moonshot projects with utmost responsibility needs to be created. The moonshots have to be tracked and supported. The powers that be and the tech brains need to think in peace what moonshot voyages can mean to the country, after the landing on the moon euphoria dies down.
