IS IT THE SAME KNOWLEDGE BASE?
Every knowledge fraternity has its own way of looking at the utility of the knowledge base. The goals are different and that is what impacts what we create & also the way they we use, whatever is available in the public domain knowledge base related to that topic & issue. It’s looked & used from a very limited perspective and thus the products from simple ppts to general research products are also stunted to say the least. We are in the midst of an ongoing process of creating bonsais of knowledge, when there is so much & so easily on offer. Our lives can just be transformed.
The academic fraternity is fully busy in limiting itself to the text books & pre-decided case studies. They are unable to connect to academicians at other places & abroad, where lots & lots of relevant material is being churned out by the hour. It’s a sad commentary on our academic existence, while we keep writing & popularising commercially crafted vision & mission statements. What happens in the process is creating myopic human products.
The research fraternity works also in the same vein. The guide is the only window to knowledge and is also the final arbiter. Research challenges with large knowledge bases are available; beyond his comprehension, is not allowed to happen. In reality, the guide & researcher have to both combine as a research team today; there are no givers and takers, all are recipients of knowledge is the reality of the day. Various dimensions of the research problem are dynamic today.
The industry has its own story, but couple of enterprises though for business reasons are yet doing yeomen to research globally, utilising the knowledge base available to mankind and adding on to it by documentation and also by creation of products. That is the real usage of the knowledge base the world has created so far. Mostly, business enterprises are fighting their daily business battle.
THE WORLD WILL BE A MUCH BETTER PLACE IF WE USE THE READILY AVAILABLE KNOWLEDGE BASE & ITS PRODUCTS.
