LEADERSHIP IN THE FOURTH INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION

The first three industrial revolutions took the leap in one technology and brought transformative changes in the world, limited to the leadership to that particular genre. The fourth industrial revolution has more than a bunch of emerging technologies; the synthesis and differential adoption for the requirements of the industry, sector or region is the key. This would be Cyber-Physical encompassing the whole world. Leader’s comprehension and mastery of contextual intelligence will help understand and guide it. “A sense of context is defined as the ability and willingness to anticipate the emerging trends and connect the dots.”

For the first time we have technologies and management processes galore, how to find a solution out of it, is the challenge. Decision makers will have to appreciate the value of diverse networks, which helps in taking all the stockholders onboard. Connectedness henceforth would continue to be one of main attributes of a leader in IR 4. Holistic perspective will emanate out of bringing together and working with business, government, civil society, faith, academia and the young generation. Integrated ideas & solutions thus created will lead to outcomes expected out IR 4 on a long term sustainable basis.

This concept is at the core of multi stakeholder theory, which is called as the Spirit of Davos by the World Economic Forum communities. “Boundaries between sectors and professions are artificial and are proving to be counterproductive.” Leaders who can forge effective partnerships building diverse teams can only deliver. The mental and conceptual frameworks and also the organising principles have to be elevated to the dynamic level in the era of exponential change.

In silos we come and in silos we go and all our our life, we sing the collaboration song. This has to be put into reality now. In the present day disruptive and fast changing world, “thinking in silos and having a fixed view of the future is fossilizing.” The paradigm shift in the operational style of the leaders have to happen sooner than later. It needs the intellectual and social agility of a fox unlike the fixed, narrow focus of a hedge hog. IR 4 waits for it’s transformational leaders.

LEADERS WILL SHAPE THE LEADING ENTERPRISES & COUNTRIES, OF THE FOURTH INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION.
