LEAKS, PROPRIETY & CONFIDENTIALITY
Chatham House Rule was created way back in the 1927 with some refinements in 1992 and 2002, pertaining to holding debates / discussions states, ”When a meeting, or part thereof, is held under the Chatham House Rule, participants are free to use the information received, but neither the identity nor the affiliation of the speaker(s), nor that of any other participant, may be revealed.” This feeling and sentiment gets reflected in investigation, security and official requirements of privacy, secrecy and confidentiality for ease of functioning and operations to yield the expected, desired and legally mandated results. Chatham House Rule appealed to the finer sensibilities of the western liberal educated class. We have come a long way.
We have not only come a long way, it seems in the last few years, we are moving on a completely wrong way. The fence has started eating the crop, under these circumstances, who will save the crop. The dangers are too sinister to imagine. The de facto usurpers of the fake information power are the ones who are supposed to make us aware and enlighten us on the deeds and misdeeds in the democratic functioning. They were supposed to be an objective and empirical messenger. Social media stole all our data, ran psychological tools on us, albeit surreptitiously, enabled algorithms to make decisions on our behalf. We didn’t even realise that we have lost our free will. Our data got monetised into trillions of dollars.
Privacy which was inalienable was to be brought back as a fundamental right. It would be our job to resurrect it with no victory anywhere in sight. The fourth estate hounds peoples and information way beyond a well strategised and orchestrated military operation. There they can fail. Here there is no failure, through their tricks, they keep maintaining the control, even if the narratives change. Everything and everybody is a tool in their avarice ride they are permanently on. Every organisation and every human being they come across is put to risk and with it the system, community and the nation.
The faith in the system gets continuously eroded as everything is under challenge for no rhyme or reason, just because the other person is tied by official rules, propriety or decorum. It gives a feeling that investigation is not bound by any law, expertise, knowledge and confidentiality and anybody with a mike is a born Sherlock Holmes. Instantaneously, picking up all skills simultaneously serving vested agendas is the herculean task they preform. Everything is fair in journalism and no laws and rules apply is the situation we have been brought down to. They have left no space to breathe, perform or even grieve. What impacts people does not matter, their TRP matters.
