MICROSOFT COPILOT – A BRAND NEW OFFICE IN THE MAKING
Microsoft created the present contours of present office work few decades back and by now we have become so accustomed to it, that we feel this the only way office works. Lots of other elements also came in our official / academic work; the browser, the capability to search, common accessible storage, mail and what not. With some prompts, searches, filters etc. we regularly use, we are still far away from today’s advanced tech capability, living comfortably broadly in silos. People who believe that things would continue as they have been with incremental changes of versions, some icons, updates, as for MS Office Suite, or for Google Search, Mail or drive, they are badly mistaken.
Microsoft missed out on mobility and paid a huge price for it. But of late it has been working in the backdrop consistently, investment in OpenAI being one example, like making a success of Azure, after being a late comer. They have the huge ecosystem advantage of Windows, MS office etc. and if diligently used, with vision and perseverance can deliver dividends beyond anyone imagination. Last 7 years of work of OpenAI and partnerships behind came to felt in a tectonic manner on Nov 30, 2022, with the release of ChatGPT, which has already become the buzzword across the globe.
As if that was not enough, GPT-4 was released on March 13, 2023, challenging the world to do the catching up. Propelled by these and strategic planning of Microsoft, Microsoft 365 copilot as it is unfolding will turn out to be your copilot for work, reinventing office productivity that we could have never imagined. The prophets of doom and the dissenters of the power of AI and its un-proclaimed arrival in this world are destined to bite dust. Powered by ChatGPT and GPT-4, the whole of the Microsoft Office Architecture will starting playing not a different tune, but would be a new orchestra which will play any tune you want.
What is office work? Writing mails, creating repots, some data crunching & data jugglery, edit word documents, collate dispersed stuff into document, ppts, meeting recap / notes has been our office mainstay for decades now. That was parameter both of your proficiency and productivity. What was buried would remain buried. Bing search and chat with edge as the browser would open the world as never before, with the backend AI. Imagine of a ppt made our excel data and email content at the back end. You do some minor editing, if required. A mail being written on its own, not missing out anything, things you, your secretary and the office have been missing since long. Intelligence based integration and expression, will give you a feeling that you have wasted your life so far. Copilot will take your request to your knowledge repository and then to ChatGPT / GPT-4, bring it back to your knowledge repository and then process the final output. It is just round the corner.
