Social entrepreneurship is the flavour of the day. The will & the skills in this field to would add up to the elevation of the disadvantaged in future. Within the organisational fold of ISKCON Akshaya Patra Program has it’s humble beginnings in 2000 & in 17 years has turned out to the biggest mid day scheme in the world. It provides worthwhile lessons for emerging social entrepreneurs.

It is the World’s Largest NGO-Run

Mid-Day Meal Programme serving Wholesome School Lunch to over 1.6 million children in 13,839 schools across 12 States in India. The vision being, ”No child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger.” From providing mid-day meals to 1500 school children in 5 govt. schools in Bangalore, today it a force to be reckoned with. The first lesson to be learned is the scalability model – the horizontal extension across 12 states. A seamless scalability when projects fail on scalability issues.

Technology plays a preeminent role, with the assembly line model of food preparation. The human element is at the barest minimum. The efficient, self created supply chain, mainly out of the project execution learnings, provides it one of kind operational sustainability. 16 lakh meals cooked out of just 33 kitchens, delivered across geographies, with no record of health hazards.

Quality assurance is the bedrock of its operations. From the ingredients to the process of cooking, testing, packing & delivery maintaining quality standards set by themselves. Without a regulator. Standard wholesome food served fresh is its core. Passion for perfection & a mercenary zeal to deliver, what is mandated, has become the DNA of the dedicated Human Resources who make it happen, flawlessly.

The methodologies, skills, systems, technology used & the spirit & passion behind should be disseminated to the wider world. A successful model that deserves documentation, training & replication.
