CONNECT THE DOTS – OF LIKE MINDED INNOVATORS
Connect the dots has been immortalized in innovators & hence business lexicon by the biggest innovator of all times. Steve Jobs in his Stanford Commencement Address, which has become as iconic as the legend himself, elaborated this concept & its usage in his business life. The basic idea is whatever one has learned over a period of time can get connected when the need arises, if the person has the capability to connect the dots. While we keep creating business models on a day to day basis, Steve Jobs says connecting the dots cannot be a prospective exercise, it can & it will always remain a prospective exercise. He put the management thought upside down.
Extrapolation or extension of concepts & ideas has not been new to human existence. In business parlance we call it horizontal extension. Connect the dots was practiced by Steve Jobs as an individual practice. If that be made applicable to a groups of our choice what would be the outcome. The first step would be to have clarity on the requirements. What is to be achieved, the basic purpose & goal of the prospective innovative product, which the group or a few individuals intend to achieve.
This has to be an empirical & an objective exercise. The dots that is the competencies & skills have to be enumerated. We then have a whole list of dots of the concerned individuals. Having a list of requirements already in place, a matrix connected the two can be created. The matrix is the extension of what was conceptualized for one person. This is the magic formula. This needs to be executed & operationalized then. It would perform in the same integrated manner as it did for the individual.
The near unison of innovative minds is at the core of its success. The collection of minds in reality works as one single mind. For sure it would revolutionize the creation of innovative products & thus entrepreneurship & has the capability to transform the start up ecosystem.
CONNECTING THE DOTS BEYOND INDIVIDUALS IS THE MAGICAL FORMULA OF INNOVATION.
