CORONA TIMES – RESTRAINT AND HABIT
In a world of entitlement teaching restraint on the fly would be difficult in normal times but finding it pretty tough even in Corona times is still intriguing. Awareness campaigns for variety of issues have been going for long from climate change to hygiene. Most of it happens in events, photo-ops, creative competitions and sometimes celebrities to add to the glamour. Urgency is not the name of the game. There is neither any restraint to the practiced and better still nobody is breathing down your neck for a drastic change in your habit.
All that we have done so far has been projects and programs, funded, impact decided the way we want and generally a congregation or drive of happy go lucky. Corona times is totally different, its a war, of a magnitude the world has never seen. Unseen. The results are out there in the open. The only foreseeable solution being isolation / social distancing / lockdown, you can call it by any name or a combination of these or by all the three. The world is under lockdown.
We still find large numbers in Tokyo parks to beaches in the US oblivious of what is happening all around the world. Death and despair. Not to tell of the Indians who have been parading down the streets seemingly making a clarion call. Restraint is virtue in normal times, a critical & live saving medical tool in Corona times. Is it so difficult to practise it even for saving our own lives. The other behavioural trait is habit. The habit of forewords in social media.
If forewards were the R&D of the modern world, they would have invented a new corona vaccine everyday. With the originator not known and so also the research, the forewards only clutter your mind. The agenda unknown. The creator of that post has an agenda, but what about the countless Forewarders who make it move around the world in just a few hours. The struggling governments and WHO type authentic voices based on facts and figures and their advisories & forecasts are lost in this Forwards Cacophony. Has education not provided us the capability to withhold our habit even in times of crisis? As professional users of WhatsApp have we not developed a mental filter to differentiate the wheat from the chaff.
CORONA TIMES DEMANDS A DIFFERENT LEVEL OF BEHAVIOURAL CONTROL FOR OUR OWN EXISTENCE.
