Connecting the Dots was popularised by Steve Jobs and has slowly been integrated in our thought process, for persons who intended to use their mind to power their life. Some used the way Steve Jobs did and reaped immense benefits out of it. For others it has been a fascinating thought process taking out some drudgery out of their lives. These once in a lifetime individuals change the way we look at the world. It seems, now its the turn of Demis Hassabis, the founder of DeepMind, the renowned Artificial Intelligence lab, who is recognised the world over as one of the smartest thinkers in his field.
The ideal description of the method which he has created out of his knowledge, skills, competences and vision can be termed as the Integrated Skills Set model. Beyond the unimaginable, he is an academician, practitioner, visionary, entrepreneur, researcher and a product creator all rolled into one. He blends the best of academics / research, product creation and business, with the main kernel of a thinker deep in him. What is even more interesting and fascinating is that it has blended his child prodigy talent in chess, with this education, his coding skills, research in neuro science to meet the most futuristic requirements of the world.
While the world will keep debating the skills Vs the degrees models, for years to come, he has created the model which has the best of all the worlds. He has a belief that the best model is to integrate all that be have, but we should the brains to do that. The world has been in need of such integrated skills set, which very few afford to have, only such persons can decipher that requirement is another crazy part. You and me will not be able to decipher.
He possessed a natural aptitude for board games, particularly chess, lots of Theme Park type entrepreneurships, computers science at Cambridge – double first class honours degree in 1997, in 1998 established Elixir Studios and then he returned to the world of academia at University College, London, in 2005, where he completed a four year PhD degree in cognitive neuroscience. He has used all of these and much more to create DeepMind, its products and works incessantly to unravel intelligence.
