CYBER SECURITY IN THE AI AGE
The use of computers elevated crimes to a different in its reach and intensity and also its sustenance; not only in cyber crime and but in innumerable conventional crimes and also from money laundering to terrorism. Being the first adopters of technology same is going to happen for the age of Artificial Intelligence. Crime to war AI is there to stay, lets make no mistake it AI is both a weapon of mass destruction and part of the sophisticated solution. A multidimensional AI arms race is in its nascent stage.
Like any other AI is also agnostic to its usage. The use of AI would help Cyber Security professionals to predict and react to emerging cyber threats both with much less loss of time and more effectively as well. If the Breach to Detection Time is shortened to reasonable levels it would be a commendable achievement. Undeniably, knowing the crime all of us would accept is the beginning of response, actions and investigation. The more the time is lost easier it becomes to cover the tracks.
Automated threat perception, detection and response will revolutionise one of the fastest growing sectors of the digital economy. The hackers on the other hand are full hog. They have already gone into the trade of polymorphic malware, causing it to constantly change its code evading identification. The attacks are likely to be more successful and personalised whereas detecting the malicious piece of intelligent code and getting it out of the network would not be an easy task, even with AI security.
AI based malware ugh ad Trickbot are likely to get into the act pretty shortly. A Trojan, is able to propagate and infect system automatically. Changes in the code can be made on the fly and so it makes it detection very difficult and remediation does not come into the picture. In the case of spear phishing the AI called SNAP_R is performing way ahead of humans; tweets to 800 users, at the rate of 6.75 tweets a minute, capturing 275 victims. Humans are at 129 users, 1.075 tweets and 49 individuals.
