MAN – MACHINE SYMBIOSIS  THE FUTURE OF COMPUTING

The victory of IBM’s Watson over Brad Rutter and Ken Jennings in quiz show Jeopardy in 2011 marked the beginning of a new era in machine learning, deep learning & artificial intelligence. It redefined what a machine can do and opened innumerable and even unimaginable usage of this technology and Watson type machines.  Future is the age of cognitive computing.

The concept of artificial intelligence to mimic human brain and match its capabilities got transformed into cognitive computing to handle big data in its entirety and be a cognitive assistant to the expert, a doctor, scientist, finance analyst and the like.  The intuitive and the reasoning element will always be the human domain and Watsons would handle data in the most intelligent way.

80% of the data  remains untapped today  and in the days to come it would increase to 90% and more. This is what is called as the . Blind Data , which our regular programming and algorithms associated with it, would never be able to handle.  It marks a paradigm shift in the nature of our digital thinking and way forward.  Cognitive computing is the future of both computing and our capability to provide solutions in the most objective manner. This is leading to disruptive innovation across board.

Today we come to decisions with a fraction of the data available to us. What a pity! Life changing and thus life shattering decisions are made in ignorance with generalisations which cannot be expected to happen in a hugely technological world.  Cognitive computing fills this big void, the biggest need of our lives.

The error in medical treatment  is to the tune of 30% to 40% in the US which translates to USD 1 trillion a year, leaving aside the vast impact it has on general health and life of the people.

MAN MACHINE SYMBIOSIS WITH COGNITIVE COMPUTING AS ITS BEDROCK IS THE FUTURE OF INFORMATION SCIENCE.
