MICROSOFT OFFICE PRODUCTS – HOW SECURE?

Our proficiency with the MS Office products has been increasing and lots of us have have grown with the versions of it. MS Office products are undoubtedly the most used computer office products in the world and in way has provided uniformity to our documents and the processes . Being of such critical importance, Microsoft over a period of time could have made it rock solid, but that has not happened. The reality of the situation is that the most used office suite is also the one which suffers the maximum cyber attacks pegged at 73% of the total.

How much of it could be a avoided is a question for another day? That the porous nature of the products would never lose its demand if any worthwhile competitor does not make entry into the market. MS Office products have ruled the world for approximately two decades by now. How much companies are bothered about security becomes crystal clear from these findings. 73% of cyber exploits were performed in MS Office Products in the third quarter of this year.

Other exploited applications by Cyber Criminals included browsers and operating systems. After the MS Office products, next in line are browsers with 13.47% ; Android with 9.09%, Java with 2.36%, Adobe Flash with 1.57% and PDF with 0.66%. Top five countries which are the sources of these web based attacks are US at 79.16%, Netherlands at 15.58%, Germany at 2.35%, France at 2.35% and Russia at 1.05%.

How costly can these be for companies, they are learning the hard way, with the customers eventually being impacted and data protection and privacy becoming stricter by the day. Hackers are always in search of bugs to exploit, most related to the last quarter were aimed at ”privilege escalation inside the system from individual operating services and popular applications.” Eventually security provided on the products will decide whether we use them or not?

MS OFFICE PRODUCTS ARE MOST USED AND MOST ABUSED – INSECURE.
