OF SYSTEM INTEGRATORS & SYSTEM INTEGRATION!
Do we ever talk of system integrators? We been talking about systemic thinking for a long time, but how does it translate into reality? The irony of today’s situation is that the ones who think and write and generally not the ones, who actually deliver on complex issues / tasks or projects of this nature. The ones who are practitioners handle their specific area, task and specialty effectively, but after that what? If we were to have excellent in each of the silos, could it deliver what is expected out of the system? No, is a clear-cut answer, and no great research needs to be done about it.
The linear progression of integral vision to systemic thinking to the creation of strategic system integrators and finally the full and wholesome act of system integration, is barely talked about and rarely brought to reality. For the naïve these concepts need to be debunked, they contend that it applies only to the technology world. How that part has performed in this country is certainly a part of this narrative. Who is the system integrator of democracy as a system? Or do have to group of the tops of legislature, judiciary, executive and the fourth estate to perform this role.
They are not even aware of it. Everyone is out of prove their exceptional contribution to the people and the nation. Many a step needed to have been taken are lost in desert sands. What we have finally created, we are forced to believe is a functional system, however much creaky is might be. The intra-silo is another story. Ditto for bureaucracy. What is bureaucracy is taught nowhere? How does it perform as the system integrator of the massive executive at least. Its broken nature is the biggest of the ills plaguing the nation. Just imagine if we were to take up an exercise in administrative integration of the nature US did in the creation of Dept. of Homeland Security post 9/11.
The creation of DHS is touted as the biggest administrative integration exercise in the history of mankind. One needs to look within why even the well-functioning silos did not deliver given the nature of the challenge. What wonder this system could do is for the world for see, and for US to enjoy the results thereof. Coming to technology, in a well-recognized and robust field of video surveillance or in general parlance, CCTV networks, we have failed to deliver. The famed system integrators and integrations are even today more on paper. For the companies engaging in it, consultant onwards everyone knows the cracks and crevices a bit too well. Who will the filler or the killer? For now the story goes on.
