SELF ESTEEM
If something is being traded in full swing in this country, it is self esteem. What is being dished out to the world, in the name of self esteem, by prominent & well positioned persons is outright arrogance and more often than not, inflated ego. This can be termed as the worst perversion of self esteem. A whole load of powerful people are regularly crying fowl that they don’t get the respect from the system, which in their perception is due to them. Some take it further to even scuffles & other unsavoury manifestations in the public domain. Vast majority, the unrepresented one, barely know if something like self esteem exists in this world. This is the quagmire of Indian self esteem.
“In sociology and psychology, self-esteem reflects a person’s overall subjective emotional evaluation of his or her own worth. It is a judgment of oneself as well as an attitude toward the self.” How many of us are proud of self worth? Self esteem can guarantee us the capability to withstand against exploitation, to get misused, which most of us willy nilly passively agree to, for some momentary small gain, which most of the times doesn’t happen.
Though self esteem is a part of our folklore, it’s perpetuation is not built in our present day culture, in our family values & in our educational & professional ecosystem. It is left to the individual to battle it out, with no support systems, whatsoever. Supposedly, the most pragmatic of the lot, find it as a mental baggage, ready to dispense with, at the fall of a hat.
Individuals lacking self esteem cannot transform, cumulatively, in a societal self esteem, a basic trait for any healthy society. Societies lacking self esteem cannot add up into a national self esteem.
SELF ESTEEM IS THE FIRST BUILDING BLOCK OF A RESURGENT SOCIETY & A NATION.
