WHAT DO YOU BRING TO THE PUBLIC DOMAIN?
Public domain has always fascinated professionals, performers, entertainers and sportspersons. Besides, politicians and social workers, mainly this is another group making a regular entry into the public domain. The govt / public servants though doing public service all their life, do not fit into the popular perception of public domain. There is certainly a meaning and value which the professionals intend to gain out of public domain but the moot question is: what does the public domain gain out of them? Is society the main consideration in getting into the mainstream?
The biggest fallout of professionals, writers, journalists, sportspersons, actors joining public domain would mean that either they create channels to use their expertise for public good or join / guide / lead mainstream organizations where their expertise is needed. The final goal being to make a difference to society. Make positive change happen. Added to that, it is expected out of them that they work for the upliftment of the sector / profession / class they come from. They are the brand ambassadors of of that group in the public domain and also their benefactors.
Its time we make an impact analysis on this count. Given the number of sportspersons, journalists, professors, scientists, lawyers and other professionals in public domain for quite some, one could expect greater growth / streamlining / effectiveness in areas where they were supposed to impact. Public domain entry cannot be treated as a reward for a well accomplished career. In reality, it’s the beginning of a new career. A career where you seamlessly synthesize the professional expertise with the public domain requirements. Society would eternally be grateful to them if they deliver on this count.
With professional expertise, confidence, communication skills and more often than not public position, the potential they have to to inspire society individually and in a cumulative manner, would be way beyond any structured program can deliver. They blend the best the leaders of any society has to offer. A one of its kind mindset which can provide meaning to most of the activities we do, education we impart and duties we perform .
