War has always been for prized products / assets from territory to gold /jewels to oil and finally the bone of contention being technology. International trade and commerce protectionism, custom barriers, economic conglomeration, trade deals, technology transfers or the lack of it, nuclear superiority, non-proliferation treaty etc have been a party to creating a non-war position of superiority and domination. The onset of the digital age change whole game in favour of the US from chip to the OS to the social media. It was a domination which seemed beyond challenge till a decade back or even less.
Though the massive strides which China was making was slowly becoming common knowledge over the years, it was only with Huawei’s it came to the fore and also the battle of technology which the two have been involved for quite some time. 5G is the first technology where China has demonstrated a clear cut superiority and despite the US ban is ready to take it to the world. But Huawei and China have decided the 5G will not be the only test case. Huawei has announced that its first Smart TV will be powered HongMeng OS. What Windows OS meant to the world and later the strength of Andriod and iOS is all too well known.
5G telecom service and now OS, the tide who knows could swiftly change in favour of China given the nature of adoptability which present tech world provides. The Smart TV would be the hub for controlling all internet-connected devices at home. The OS is in the developmental stage, short of final product by a few months. This new OS would run a variety of devices like routers, network switches, tablets, computers and data centers.
In operational terms it means a single operating system which can accessed seamlessly across multiple devices. ”Huawei has claimed that its HongMeng OS is about 60% faster than Andriod and is also significantly faster than macOS. Its a package. ”The Kirin chipset will be based on second -gen 7nm processing and will feature Extreme Ultraviolet Lithography (EUV) technology.” It will be 5G ready with Huawei’s Balong 5000 modem.
