IS SERVILITY OUR DNA, DESTINY OR CHOICE?

Slavery is a word belongs to a different age and a different world. If was a forced servility. A state of human existence which was inhuman to say the least. But can we confidently say that today servility as a practitioner’s state of mind is lost forever. Have we been able to do it away from the human psyche? Or is it still being practiced? Historical movements, rebellions, visionary leaders and equally visionary executions, through their successful struggles pushed in into history. May be only they physical servility got consigned to history, how about the mental one?

The natural question we come to, has servility been our DNA? The answer is an affirmative No. By the same stretch of logic, it was not our destiny, we were forced into it. Then from where does our servile attitude come from? Genetic and historic reasons do not hold water. No has our generation ever had any interface with this practice, there would have generations of gaps between the two. Even servile stories are not in vogue. What an historical irony then, mental servility by choice is slowly becoming the order of the day. It has already engulfed a large part of the country, now clearly visible in the public domain from politics, bureaucracy, institutions, organizations etc. Is falling in line the new fad?

Individuality is the most celebrated element of a human being, and that differentiates us from everything else on this planet. Democracy provided us with the overall umbrella of rights, powers, talent and merit-based existence, and lots of safeguards in which you could bloom; individuals and organizations both and be their own. The professional groups and sectors were all supposed to grow up in a similar manner. The governance mechanism was to be such where a thousand flowers could bloom inside it every day, and the nature of its interface would make lakhs of flowers bloom outside, through its benign approach and impact making action.

The democratic and even the civilizational script has turned awry. If one element which defines India today is its servility. Nobody has forced it upon us, at the individual, community or the organizational level. Life of proving oneself over a long period to time and being ready to take any onslaught, while you keep on improving yourself types traits, have been lost the vicissitudes of time. The political parties and political executive are the biggest proponents of this culture, which has spread like wildfire. The steel frame of governance gave way to the much stronger wave of servility. Easy, effortless life with all comforts and no frictions is at the core of this servile culture, which has engulfed the nation. Irreversible it seems.

WHY SHOULD I STICK NECK OUT, BUT YOU NEED TO HAVE A NECK FOR THAT. ITS MISSING NOW.
