THE SPECTACLE OF POWER / IS POWER A SPECTACLE?
For the common man the most familiar manifestation of power is it being seen as a spectacle, which is more of pomp and show on display rather than being able to communicate it’s inner strength and what it is meant for. This is spectacle of power is found the world over in different measure and sometimes it gives a feeling that people who aspire for it also intend to achieve precisely for the same reasons. Being powerful is making a spectacle of himself through the power he controls at that particular point in time.
Might be because of this thought process, the paraphernalia of power is provided in a positional manner. If we make a deep study of the necessity of tantrums of power both for operational and /or for security reasons, most would have to be done away with. For the fellows who aspire to grow in the ladder of power, these visible manifestations of power are the real lure. More often than not people are satisfied just with high sounding designations leave aside even real positions.
This mindset takes us to a level where satisfaction of the ego is far more important than real content of power. The job description is actually the real content of power. What value add you provide to the position you hold is real issue. Very rarely any of us gives even a thought. This would be treated as an insane thought. You holding a particular post should add to its honour and delivery, rather than being a parasite on it.
The gradual denigration of doing justice to the job description has brought down the respect for the supposedly high and the mighty. They all have to trained into a different world view where only delivery would count and nobody would be impressed by the tantrums, might be they would be forced by the public to do away with the archaic paraphernalia of power. The technology enabled world would keep hitting at the base of the feudal and colonial systems we have carried even to this day.
THE ABILITY TO MAKE CHANGE HAPPEN IS THE REAL POWER
