Google is still pushing Gemini forward, but the absence of Gemini 3.5 Pro is making the company look slower at the top end of AI. The newer Flash models may improve speed, cost, and security, yet they do not fully answer the question of whether Google has a true frontier model ready right now.
Google has released Gemini 3.6 Flash, 3.5 Flash-Lite, and 3.5 Flash Cyber, and its own blog says these models are meant to improve efficiency, latency, and reliability for large-scale AI use. That is useful progress, but it is not the same as launching a powerful Pro model aimed at competing directly with the strongest rivals.
On Gemini 3.5 Pro, the real news is simple: it has been delayed, and Google has not given a firm public release date. Reports say the model is still being tested with partners, with coding performance and reliability among the issues holding it back.
For general readers, the picture is this: Google is shipping many useful updates, but the missing flagship model leaves a gap at the top of its lineup. That does not mean Google is out of the race, but it does mean the company is being judged less by promises and more by what it can actually launch.
