APPLE OPENS SIRI AI TO APP MAKERS

Apple has finally opened its rebuilt Siri AI to all developers through new software betas. This means app makers can now create their own Siri actions and “skills,” instead of relying only on Apple’s preset options. For now, these features are only for internal developer testing; App Store submissions begin in spring.

The move matters because Apple is slowly loosening its famously closed system. Developers can connect their apps to Siri’s ability to understand personal context, act inside apps, and see what is on the screen. In simple terms, Siri could one day book a cab, manage a bank task, or complete a shopping order across apps.

Has Apple lost the AI race? Not completely—but it is clearly playing catch-up. The iPhone remains hugely popular and secure, yet its AI experience has felt slower and less exciting than what rival AI assistants and apps already offer. Opening Siri to developers is Apple’s admission that it cannot build every useful AI experience alone.

This is a major strategy change: Apple is inviting outside talent to make Siri genuinely useful. The first real results should begin reaching customers “in a few months,” with the wider App Store rollout expected in spring. If developers embrace it, the iPhone could finally feel built for the AI age; if not, it risks  looking like a beautiful phone from a slower era.

THE IPHONE’S AI FUTURE NOW DEPENDS NOT JUST ON APPLE, BUT ON ITS DEVELOPERS.
