PRESSURE COOKER EDUCATION

PRESSURE COOKER EDUCATION

Pressure cooker education with a mercenary goal for a hefty price is coaching, which has become the norm in this country. What a change in the academic scenario in this country, the schools have lost their relevance. For more than a decade we have heard of “Dummy Schools,” these are not the coaching centres, but the real regular schools. In Kota we don’t even hear of them, they have been submerged in the coaching sea, the names can be found only in the secondary certificates, which these students mandatorily require. Student gets transformed into a coachee.

The decimation of schools and loss in their utility in the current cut throat competitive exams world has been the “single biggest achievement” in the field of education in the last few decades. Talking of Kota alone, India leading coaching hub, schools are not even talked about, they play a second fiddle to an extent that they are completely unknown. Think of the comparison between their teachers, if there are many, with the faculty which teaches at the coaching institutes. They have successfully rechristened education / schools into coaching and coaching into an industry.

This industry only in Kota may be in the range of Rs. 5000 crores. What is the nature of control or regulation in this industry? It is as good as none. The only philosophy is to make hay while the sun shines. With the school environment missing and the general living conditions being pathetic, the all pervading environment of competition starts sucking you. If there is competition all the time, 24 hours of the day, there are certainly chances of students caving in, more so those who are not in a mental state to take this workload and deliver. Not every student is equally competent to handle that sort of a workload and come out successfully.

Lots land without the academic wherewithal with misfounded aspirations pushing them and more often than not the parents push a large number of them went into the Kota factory to either fulfill their dreams or transform their lives. The end result is a pressure cooker education, manifesting in a variety of ways, the worst form being suicides. Suicides have become an acceptable norm, what a tragedy! There have been 6 in just 22 days of this year. How many would be in a bad mental health? There are no figures, there can never be one. Who will allow that to happen? It seems even the conditions laid by district administration for 2022 are not being followed. Why coaching in the first place, if CBSE curriculum / exams are not up to the mark, the government needs to set it right. It is a racket against education, students and parents for windfall gain, with system conniving. The fence is eating the crop.

IT’S TIME TO CALL THE COACHING BLUFF TO BRING SANITY TO OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM.
