Anthropic just leapfrogged OpenAI with a new version of its model, Claude Opus 4.8. The update beats most major benchmarks, especially on coding, using computers, and financial analysis, and it’s better at admitting uncertainty instead of guessing.
Alongside Opus 4.8, Anthropic announced a huge funding round — $65 billion — that values the company around $965 billion, making it the most valuable AI lab today. The company says a still-more-powerful Mythos-class model is coming in the “coming weeks.”
Opus 4.8 also introduces cheaper Fast-mode inference (about three times cheaper), new effort-control features on claude.ai, and parallel sub-agents in Claude Code for handling long, complex tasks. These changes aim to make the model both powerful and practical for real-world work.
This milestone shows Anthropic’s safety-first approach can win both technical leadership and big investment, and it puts the company squarely ahead in the AI race — at least for now. Investors and competitors will now be watching closely as the company rolls out Mythos and tries to turn this lead into lasting market power.
ANTHROPIC IS NOW POSITIONED TO DOMINATE THE NEXT WAVE OF AI INNOVATION.
