CAN SUPERVISION SORT OUT MATTERS?
The real question can be: can supervision sort out sordid matters? Without getting into the nitty gritty of it, creating structures, resources in a broken manner, not knowing to tie even the first threads, the shenanigans of the digital world create the mechanisms of creating, understanding and executing complex integrated projects. That projects don’t have life is the thought process. Unfortunately, IT is not as straightjacketed branch of engineering as civil, mechanical or electrical and with integration being the real glue, gets unstuck before it is pasted.
Given the superficial understanding of all the elements of the system and all the needs and requirements of stakeholders of the project is the sham of an effective Project Management mechanism. With right expertise, attitude, interpersonal relationship, the well oiled team coming out of similar operations, ownership, accountability and urge to achieve the project as a showcase project missing, efforts are on show that everything is going on fine.
Supervision is put as an alibi for things transforming into a perfect dream sequence. It is a real project, imagination cannot take you places. The number of supervisory levels increased for the company which always claimed this being the best way to set right things. When the main companies and the consortiums started failing then the system integrators as a concept was brought in. With no theoretical or on the ground experience at their command, they became a mere finance validating agency.
This unending exercise now starts with the consultant itself, who decides the nature of the messy implementation and then leaves the scene. When simple things are so difficult to implement, implementing documents not being the true reflection of reality barely happens. Supervision to supervision cannot take care of substandard and not clearly understood execution.
SUPERVISION CANNOT BE USED IN LIEU OF METICULOUS EXECUTION.
