CYBER POLICE & CYBER SOLDIERS
In a recent interview the CEO of Checkpoint stressed the need of Cyber Police & Cyber Soldiers. He meant that these agencies perform the same tasks & carry the same responsibilities which their counterpart do for the physical world. We literally live in the cyber world today. But both in common parlance and in reality too, Cyber Police only registers & investigates the Cyber Crimes. The difficultly in investigation & its results is only one part of the story. That apart, Cyber Soldiers or Warriors as a distinct entity ending up in a Cyber Army, still remains an elusive concept.
We have Cyber Crime Police Stations & Cyber Cells but not a Cyber Police in the real sense of the term & effectiveness. Prevention & detection of crime & maintenance of law & order are the Police’s mandated tasks. Is the Police able to perform these tasks? Have we ever thought of the Cyber beat or Cyber patrolling? Does the Police perform the preventive duties mandated on them? Then their is also the documentation of Cyber criminals, aliases, dossiers, activities, movements, analysis& potential to identify hot spots.
You can well imagine the nature of skills to perform these tasks, the size of such police, support systems, interfaces with very large number of organisations, precise legal enablement and the like. What a humongous effort it would be. A Cyber Police Blueprint needs to be created right now.
Cyber Warriors have already found favour in dozens of countries, created directly by the govt or surreptitiously, fully supported by the country. China has a huge army falling in the second category. Both defensive & offensive potential are a must. US has a Cyber Command. Stuxnet was the first military grade cyber weapon created & used to incapacitate Iran’s nuclear program. What would it entail to create even a small effective band of Cyber Warriors is left to your imagination. There is undeniably an urgent need.
THE CHALLENGES OF CYBER SECURITY DEMANDS THE CREATION OF AN EFFECTIVE CYBER POLICE & CYBER WARRIORS.
