GOVERNANCE ENCOUNTERED!

How many in this country would believe that the administration is in the pink of health, when all governments would like us to believe so. They even go to the extent of advertising for the people to believe that everything is hunky dory and moving in the right direction. That the governments are bringing down the moon for us, and we should be thoroughly impressed and keep watching their 100 days, one year achievements functions and other similar programs with awe, while experiencing the muck all around the place.

For the common man what governance has come down to are some government benefits, few doles, few government utilities, ease of digital payment for a variety of taxes, cess, duties, free substandard education for the poor and mostly substandard governmental healthcare. The government is never forthcoming in sorting out your issues and you will have to move from pillar to post if you were forced to interact with the government for even a slightly complex issue. Things are moving at pace where anything done by the government is accepted for lack of choice. It is an everyday freedom struggle for the common man.

The bulldozers and so called encounters raise hue and cry, but how is it taken by the governments? Or the governments are at the backend in any and every case of misuse, commission and omission. The delay in registration of the FIR in a rape case of minors, public outcry, high court coming down heavily, filing of chargesheet and finally the encounter of the accused. The best case scenario is that the police have not been able to protect the main accused who has all the details of the concerned crime and linkages thereof. An abrupt closure, an avoidable one, deliberate or otherwise is a different story. It gives a feeling that the accused apart, the government has been encountered.

This is close on the heels of Kolkata agitation, most genuine and rock solid, apolitical in nature, was ‘dealt’ so methodically, that agitating resident doctors had to call off their strike. While the whole system gave a feeling that it’s working for them, the final result and bitter feeling the doctors carried home with them was a feeling of being cheated and will be with them till the last breath of their life. The reins of power changed hands in Karnataka changed hands on the issue of the malaise of corruption to have landed into another soup. Reality or otherwise, how much time does our political class have for running the government? Even otherwise, government is primarily for the leaders, workers, supporters and cronies of the party in power. In the process, has governance not been encountered?

MAXIMUM GOOD FOR THE MAXIMUM PEOPLE FOR THE MAXIMUM TIME HAS BEEN ENCOUNTERED.
