INDIA POLICE HACKATHON 2019 – A DATE WITH INDIA

A date is the beginning of a new relationship. This is the way it has been for the last 20 days finally culminating in the crescendo this evening with the Awards Ceremony of India Police Hackathon 2019. This is certainly the beginning a new relationship. Whatever might the the Police’s relationship with technology and its need, this event was the first date of the Police and Coding fraternity in the country, establishing the nascent connect which needs to be groomed in the days to come.

That this is a symbiotic relationship between the two needs to emphasised, in the benefit of this country. The US has reaped benefits out of it since the days of ARPANET and the research platform provided by the govt. was ahead of the business enterprises even thinking of it. National Security Agency’s Chief going to Hackathons has been reported in the public domain. The relationship between the academic fraternity, researchers and the govt / Police increases our efficiency. IT puts academics and police more on the robust footing.

That this has yielded results elsewhere is well known, that it should also happed in India has also a long felt need. The way to make it happen has been the only bottleneck. May be this initiative would clear the smokescreen. The clearly visible prototypes would have the power to enthuse any decision maker to possess it. Prototype is the cusp of change, a bit a of an effort, a known trajectory and a product would be ready to be adopted.

Such adoptions happening on a regular basis would change the efficiency and productivity of the Police in general and intelligence & investigative agencies in particular. With 167 coders in 45 teams battling it out for glory and collaboration by solving five problem statements for 36 hours non-stop, forebodes success for Police and a paradigm shift in our functioning.

CODES OF CHANGE ARE VISIBLE ON THE FIRMAMENT. MAKE IT HAPPEN.
