INDIA POLICE HACKATHON 2019 – THE HUMAN FALLOUT
That a Hackathon would and should give coding solutions is a foregone conclusion. What is as fascinating as the technology dimension is the human fall out. When more than 200 humans inside an indoor basketball court with snacks, coffee/tea and other facilities around from different organisations and different ages within a sterile academic campus, for two days, has created an bonhomie which is out of the world. No training and workshop on interpersonal human relations can bring about this change. Might be this is the most ideal way of creating communities with a purpose, commitment inbuilt and wedded to change.
Even two days after the event the participants, the Jury, RV College of Engineering volunteers and all associated are not getting tired of talking about the helping and friendly behaviour of the police personnel / officers all throughout the Hackathon. The human interface of all guests and hosts was palpable, it had become seamless in no time. It had become one Hackathon Community. The courtesy and respect shown to each other was out of the world. It would be great if this could somehow get extrapolated into the outside world day to day inter-organisational interactions / relationships.
Fall outs are very fascinating as they are in planned. The coding fraternity and other technologists as a part of jury and mentors were pleasantly surprised to see the police officers and personnel so proficient with technology. They were enamoured by the conduct of the Hackathon, from network infrastructure, to technology platform inclusive of cloud, problem statements detailing, mentoring, interface with IEEE and the use of Blockchain technology for awarding certificates. Lots of them want to be associated with the Police and Govt in the days to come.
Care and concern is the beginning of long lasting impact making relationships. This has been the undercurrent of this mega event. Code for India played on the hearts and minds of the coding fraternity, way beyond the brick and mortar of the corporate world. It enthused a sense of purpose beyond money and yearning for its likely fulfilment and that eternal feeling.
