LIFE IS NOT AN EVENT

Life is not an event nor a combination of it, neither a cumulation of it nor any permutation of it. Yet, the general perception has turned out to be that way, people are hitch hiking between from one event to other ones. Lots of sectors / areas work only on events and the physical success of one event or a series of it becomes a success story in itself. Marriage too have become events. So has travel in a way. In the consumerist age, facilitated by digital technology and accentuated by social media, to find out what is not an event would be a difficult exercise.

The transition of the understanding of the event presumably happened in recent times. As per the dictionary meaning and as it was used sometime back and now also in serious quarters, it is something that happens or is regarded as happening; an occurrence, especially of some importance. It simultaneously also meant to be the outcome, issue or result of anything. It’s a milestone, an achievement or may be a setback or a watershed in one’s existence, family or in a sector, society or the nation. A point of inflection, fulfilment or a time to set right things or to resolve to perform much better at the next opportunity.

It has also been used to predict contextual situations, in that event , this would happen. Today, the understanding of event is diametrically opposite of what has been explained so far. It is being synonym of a function, a big one, professionally managed having the capability of making a humongous impact, all by itself. Ceremonies like marriages and even Pujas were either upgraded or downgraded as events. Events started being documented for multimedia posterity. The magical documentation certainly gets precedence over the actual experience.

Disproportionately large amount of time, effort, energy and money is spend on bland issues mainly for the purpose of a superficial display, may it be marriage or any other social function. It can be an inauguration, completion etc. It has even hit conferences and Seminars / Conferences, which have become events generally devoid of any worthwhile content. Devoid of mental agility, well dressed people, displaying fun/frolic or superfluous seriousness / professionalism in manicured setting can barely deliver even stunted results. Time to get back to the real events of life.

MAKE LIFE SUPER EVENTFUL DEVOID OF EVENTS.
