RESEARCH AGENT AI
Have you been satisfied with the quality of research in this country? If you are not, then you are not the only one, there are innumerable many. There is one organisation which is really satisfied with the quality of research, then it’s the UGC. The fulcrum of India’s higher education is dependent on the number of doctorates produced. The utility of it, no one knows. In the completely changed scenario, no one even knows how many of these doctorates, or even better ones, the LLMs cannot produce instantaneously. The moot question is could these have been better if there were to be technological tools to drastically bring down the drudgery of their research.
Fortunately, those days are over. In the age of AI there is something for everyone; every profession, every task, more so in the Agentic AI phase and above all, the LLMs for everyone on this planet. The good news is that OpenAI has released an AI agent that has been designed to act like a research analyst. The feature is known as Deep Research. What does this research AI agent do? This agent is designed to speed up tasks that would take a person “many hours.” The person would try its best to avoid or end up doing it shabbily. Precision thus is lost out most of the time.
Bringing transformation to research the new AI tool will carry out time consuming online research for users, from complex science questions to car portfolios. Deep Research as it would be called would be made available to certain paying customers through Open AI’s ChatGPT online. OpenAI has declared that this online service will be doing the job of a research analyst. Many hours of work can be done in tens of minutes. CEO Sam Altaman has previously, that AI agents will be “the next giant breakthrough.” His company remains true to his word. In just over a month in this new year OpenAI has released its second AI agent. Operator was first to be introduced.
Both the services are initially available for just $200 per month on OpenAI’s recently introduced ChatGPT Pro option. How many of our researchers will exploit this tool is a billion dollar question. Will it make any difference to the time taken for a structured research? If need be can the model be distilled for providing India centric information, of a type that is ideally suited for our research. Or for that matter one or more agentic AI for India’s research fraternity. Deep Research as the case of other agents as well can “complete multi-step tasks” for users with minimal supervision. Deep Research is still in its nascent stage, and hence we need to be doubly sure of it, before accepting this as the gospel truth.
