THE MAGICAL PROFESSIONAL
Each one of us introduces oneself as a professional, given the first opportunity, and can elaborate on it at length, if the other person shows even slightest of inclination. If someone calls us a professional of the trade we are in, there are no bounds to our happiness. Few degrees and a good job at your command, and you become the quintessential professional. No one is interested in knowing what parameters, expertise and practice make you a true professional. Mostly in India, self certification is the biggest curse we are afflicted with. Nobody is ready to accept the fact that even the essentials of a professional keeps changing in this fast changing world.
Best quality deliverable at the most competitive cost of production, while meeting stringent timelines, maintaining all standards and compliances, is the mark of a true professional. You can fine tune this a bit for every sector, trade or industry.Subroto Bagchi in his book Professional published in 2009, found a professional to be one, who could perform the task without monitoring i.e. being on your own and declare the successful completion of assigned task, work or project. Suffice to say this means he or she was also open to all sorts of validation and confident of clearing it globally. More often than not the best of the professionals set their own standards and they are known for it in their professional fraternity, if not the public domain.
I presume this result is the outcome of the professionals expertise, competencies, vision, experience, never say never die approach and his final satisfaction and happiness in the best possible delivery. But we have been living in transformative times, so the nature of what makes an outstanding professional has to be seen in a new light. We have reached AI going through an intensive tech journey, with successes and failures, mostly not highlighted as to what role tech has played in it. This is the making of the new age professional, which I can safely term the Magical Professional. Who then is a Magical Professional?
There might not be enough ready-made data in the public domain to prove the exact proportion of tech in the success of a professional. There is no denying the fact that the magical professional is one, who has the appropriate tech by his side, and delivers way beyond others. He has tech vision for and in his work. At the subset of technology and domain expertise is the magical professional. Do you ever outsource finance? Tech is much more critical today, without his tech vision nothing can happen, even if he is in a completely non-technology company; finance, manufacturing, FMCG and what not? Conversely, even in the tech company you cannot survive without real world tech understanding and vision. Kodak’s moment to bankruptcy and Microsoft missing out on mobility can be attributed back to tech vision. The Magical Professional can handle it all.
AT THE CONVERGENCE OF DOMAIN AND TECHNOLOGY IS THE MAGICAL PROFESSIONAL WITH OUTSTANDING OUTPUT BEING THE ONLY TOUCHSTONE.
