WHAT A CASE AND WHAT AN INVESTIGATION!
Pune Porsche crash case, as the case now is popularly known, does not give an iota of both the gravity and magnitude of the case. It gives a feeling of one more car accident, the difference being that it involved a luxurious car. But there are any number of cases where such cars have been involved but there has been no hue and cry. The whole country is up in arms in this case and rightly so. A spoilt brat son of a moneyed builder in Pune killed two young techies driving his speeding Porsche. The vehicle had rammed into a motorcycle carrying software engineers, Aneesh and Ashwini, from the rear. A brat taking the lives of two budding tech professionals.
The accused was a wastrel and the victims self made persons. Accused was a product of thoroughly bad parenting and grooming and the victims were trying to find their place in a competitive tech world in a happening city. As if this was not enough, the accused was a minor and hence did not even have a driving licence. As if this was not enough, the accused was drunk and the bar bill preceding the accident was in the range of rupees half of lakh. It does not end here, the car was without a registration for quite some time. You can say, the car is on a roll throughout Pune city, unhindered, police and RTO all indifferent, and today defenceless. What have the Police cameras been doing?
What was the traffic police doing? You can’t say they were found napping. For sure some traffic policeman would have caught him, at least seen him, then why this laxity? Or is it a practice in Pune to treat such brats driving posh cars with kid gloves. Today, the Commissioner of Police has to go head over heels to prove his / police’s effectiveness. The Juvenile Justice Board granted bail on easy terms. A furore taking it through the legal process again led to the cancellation of the bail, remanding the minor to the Yerwada home till June 5. The father was arrested for his role in precipitating this crime. Letting loose this brat on the road to kill. The grandfather was really grand, he tried his level best to make their driver the accused. The ploy came out and now he is behind bars.
Botched investigation seems to have become the name of the game. Favouring the moneyed and the influential, leading to the inept handling of the case, two cops Inspector Rahul Jadgale and Assistant Police Inspector Vishwanath Todkari, both attached to the Yerawada police station, were suspended for dereliction of duty on grave lapses pertaining to this. To add insult to this festering wound, tampering with blood samples came to light. Police swooped on two doctors from the state run Sassoon General Hospital, including the Head of Forensic Medicine, for allegedly tampering with the blood samples of the 17 year old accused as forensic and DNA tests proved to be of some other person. It is not just a case of accident but a crime web.
IT SEEMS THAT IN THE CURRENT AVATAR, THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IS TASKED TO PERPETRATE CRIME?
