150th Morning Post  – TECHNOLOGY ENABLED POLICING  GOVERNANCE

At the heart of democratic governance is rule of law and the institutions created to operationalise and thus guard the same.  The psychological comfort with the law & order, investigative mechanism & the intelligence apparatus defines the comfort level of the citizens with the government.  Transparency sooner than later would be the norm simultaneously with the quality and effectiveness of the police services offered.  A technology enabled resilient and transparent policing is a bane of any modern society.

Technology has already become the DNA of the world and the earlier we realise,  the sooner we move forward to create a technology enabled policing which as it stands is not a matter of choice, it is compulsion.  The time ought to be abridged and there are systems, tools and utilities which can help achieve the time.

The turn around time or the reaction time has been a matter of concern since times immemorial.  Modern technologies; CCTVs , GPS enabled mobility, integration of different communication systems, working out of single dashboard and mechanism has seen commendable progress in the last couple of years. Lots still needs to be done to bring it to world standards and provide feeling of assured safety which all citizens are yearning for.

Similarly modern & complex investigations is  driven by digital evidence; the connect between various information being churned out from different databases and sensor related and locational information can transform our investigative capabilities immensely.  Data analytics, predictive modelling, secure data science, if used in our day to work and make the desired difference.  Though top driven it had to reach the cutting edge policing levels.

Confidentiality & privacy has to be maintained while using digital tools which can facilitate in securing and analysing humungous quantum of data. Trust & faith is supreme.

QUALITATIVELY TECHNOLOGY ENABLED POLICING CAN BE TRANSFORMATIONAL.
