To enforce their extortion attempt, the cybercriminals have launched an aggressive countdown clock on their dark web portal. They are threatening to auction confidential government files to the highest bidder if their financial deadline is missed. The leaked samples suggest critical municipal databases could soon be exposed to international bad actors.
Berlin’s state leadership has responded with an unyielding refusal to negotiate or transfer any cryptocurrency. Governing Mayor Kai Wegner publicly affirmed that the German capital will not yield to digital blackmail. Authorities are instead working with national cybersecurity agencies to contain the breach and rebuild system integrity.
