CLAUDE FINDS A CRISPR-LIKE MYSTERY IN VIRAL DNA

CRISPR is a gene-editing tool— like a molecular search-and-replace system. It can be directed to a particular part of DNA, cut it and help scientists remove, repair or change a gene. This could one day help treat some inherited diseases and improve crops.

Anthropic says its AI model Claude has *helped identify a previously unknown* system called ART inside viruses that infect bacteria. Nearly 950 AI agents studied huge amounts of DNA data *in about 21 hours and spotted* an unusual pattern.

The pattern looks somewhat like CRISPR, which can guide changes in DNA. But scientists still do not know what ART actually does. There is no proof yet that it can edit human genes or be used as a medicine.

The larger message is that AI can help scientists find hidden clues in DNA much faster. ART may lead to new medicines or gene-editing tools, but years of testing will be needed before we know its real use. This is an important discovery—but not yet a ready-made breakthrough.

AI HAS NOT FOUND THE ANSWER YET—IT HAS FOUND A NEW QUESTION FOR SCIENCE.
