AI CODING TOOLS BATTLE
Coding remained synonymous with IT for quite some time and it was felt that it would continue for long. Unfortunately, in the dynamic world of technology, what will wipe out what and when, and what would be the next level, remains unknown, till the time the product hits the market like a storm. Coding has been the prime jewel of the IT crown, how long they can hold their hegemony, only time will tell. Artificial Intelligence changed it all. ChatGPT was the harbinger of momentous change, which the world could palpably feel. Two years down the line, the world seems to be slowly but steadily getting engulfed by AI.
The two recent Nobel Prizes have added immense credibility to this tool by way of pure scientific research and its proven instantaneous application. How can then Coding and coders remain untouched. The LLMs have a significant component and expertise in writing codes, to what levels it can reach and how autonomous it can become only time will. The usage of AI tools for coding is a reality and as expected this would be a core area to prove their excellence. The Artificial General Intelligence, AGI, in coding, if one may say so, is the final goal.
Whosoever wins the AI race would be the company of the 21st century. Notwithstanding the fact that the honours would be shared by at least few, the battle for supremacy is on. Open AI made the world reckon the power of AI would certainly want to maintain its pole position. Coding tools remain an important area of the battle for supremacy. A recent report said that OpenAI to improve coding tools as pressure from Anthropic AI grows. There are benchmarks to measure the relative efficacy of these tools. It is said that “OpenAI’s internal benchmarks had found that Anthropic’s AI models were better than their own, at tasks related to coding.”
The Amazon backed AI startup specialises in code generation. Released in June, Claude Sonnet 3.5 has the capability to write and edit code independently. It can help developers with code migration and also in updating legacy applications to new frameworks easily. Anthropic has released new models that perform computer tasks meant for developers autonomously. The updated 3.5 Sonnet model was able to code a basic website. Still lots of AI journey to be traversed, yet the solid foundations have been laid. OpenAI has been more consumer facing like voice features. Anthropic AI seems to be giving OpenAI a run for its money.
