INTEGRAL VISION

Integral Vision has been touted as a soft skill which is most the critical of soft skills for leaders handling conflict.  This is the essence to understanding a situation ridden with conflicting claims with no easy solution in sight.  With complexity increasing in all issues leaders handle today, given the nature of today’s world,  this skill is going to make a difference whether a leader succeeds of fails.

The walls which we have created all around us mental or physical  do not demarcate the world, they simply mark the borders of our imagination.  Integral is derived from Latin integer meaning “untouched, undivided, whole.”  Each of reside in a “part” but the capability to identify with the whole is the real challenge.

If we try and imagine any situation in the recent past, tunnel vision, has been found to be the biggest culprit.  Lots of leaders feel that safeguarding their interest is their only concern, notwithstanding, whether it leads to a solution or not. That the leader would lose his constituency is the biggest fear a leader fears.  Fear is a great enemy of of integral vision.

It is said because of lack of this tool being used, the leader of the world’s largest launched a war on terror which actually made the matters worse. The  guiding principles  are

  1. Addressing to long-term needs,
  2. Through a collaborative process,
  3. Embodying shared values,
  4. Providing for clear direction &
  5. Motivation for change.

Understanding the comprehensive reality is biggest challenge of the day.

INTEGRAL VISION IS THE MOST CRITICAL SOFT SKILL OF A LEADER IN CRITICAL TIMES.
