JEFF BEZOS UNVEILS PROMETHEUS: THE $41 BILLION AI ENGINEER

Jeff Bezos launched his AI startup Prometheus*with $12 billion funding, giving it a $41 billion valuation. The startup will create an “artificial general engineer” — an AI that helps humans design complex physical machines like jet engines, medical devices, and smartphones. This isn’t a chatbot; Prometheus will interact with the real physical world to solve impossible engineering problems.

Today, engineers still use tools that haven’t changed for decades, and improving jet engine thrust by 10% can take a full decade. Prometheus wants to make this “dream-to-build” process 10 times faster. The AI will understand physics, do engineering calculations, and generate working product designs — acting as a super-powered partner to human engineers.

Founded in late 2024 by Bezos and physicist Vik Bajaj (who created Verily), Prometheus has 150 employees and backers like JPMorgan and BlackRock. The company started with $6.2 billion in November 2025 and is committing most new money to powerful computers because the work is “very compute intensive.” Products remain secret.

Bezos argues AI will create 10 times more jobs by making engineers so productive that manufacturing becomes cheaper. For India: invest in AI for physical engineering and manufacturing, evolve engineering education to include AI tools, and build similar capabilities for jet engines and medical devices to compete globally.

THE FUTURE OF ENGINEERING IS AI-POWERED — AND INDIA CANNOT WAIT.

Have a nice evening.
