SECURITY TO DECIDE FACEBOOK’s FUTURE

As the cyber security scenario in Facebook takes a downturn with every single revelation which keeps on tumbling down with predictable regularity, how much Zuckerberg may want stall it, the writing seems to be on wall. The patience of world will run our with the most reckless data securing mechanism, by the might be the biggest owner of private data in the world. In a way at the level of personal interactions he can be termed as the ruling Czar of anti-privacy and no data protection.

The game of data is multifold and any business or criminal entity connected to it indulges in the mercenary monetisation of data. What hackers do at all levels for siphoning of data and illegal transfer of money is all too well known, inclusive of some knowledge of DarkNet. What is really intriguing is the way Facebook and host of other companies deal with data, even after being told of the issues a hundred times, promised to improve a dozen of time and a data regime that has been in place.

It seems certain the Facebook has decided to continue the way it has so far, because it feels that is the best way for the company, it’s business model of choice, for the money it generates. Zuckerberg in not ready to think of any breakup of the company; anti-trust laws and monopoly legal framework does not matter to him. He talks of government regulations as a lip service. He does not mean it at all. The machinations inside Facebook are known by the rumblings outside; by the cofounder and lots of senior guys who felt better to leave.

Today the Facebook CEO is likely to face the shareholders vote amid pressure to set down. Whichever way it unfolds it would be a watershed moment in the history of social media, the future of data, the holding pattern of such companies and lots of connected areas which will decide how we connect on this planet. For sure it has started with data but will not end with it.

COMPANIES RECKLESS WITH DATA, WOULD ONE DAY HAVE TO COME TO FACE WITH REALITY.
