SHELF LIFE

All products presumably have a shelf life, lots mandated by law. For lots, it depends on how you well you  use it; might be a car. When it comes to human skills, values & creations it seems to be an endless shelf life; the quality of the product is directly proportional to the longevity of the product. Some improve with age; a university or quality of governance.

The concept of shelf life is a cardinal principle in everything a human being does. Of late it’s being thrown to the winds and we are happy with our monthly gratification of a salary. The urge to do something worthwhile beyond time and space is not very conspicuous. Out of the box and thinking different by now has become a part of management folklore and at best can be called rhetoric.

We have completely got into the mechanical way of doing things, the concept of shelf life,  does not come across even in our imagination. So everything is treated as momentary; for today or for a very short period. Only doing today’s job fits us into the manual labor slot, earning notwithstanding, the impact is the same. Making a cumulative impact out of the momentary / mechanical work can also happen, if we plan and we have the will do it.

Creations of great writers have an endless shelf life, the classics stand testimony to this fact. We at our level can certainly create worthwhile documents, which bedsides being original caters even to a little of the futuristic needs. Cut / copy / paste does not and cannot cater to our needs to even today, leave aside, being of use for a future time. If long shelf life is not your mantra, you are a failed professional.

What we speak, more so in the public forums should withstand the test of time and should not be treated as mechanical expression of semi-connected facts with no meaning.

SHELF LIFE DEFINES YOUR CREATIONS. YOUR CREATIONS DEFINE YOU.
