TECHNOLOGY MINDSET!
Decades of engineering education has not been able to create a technology mindset amongst our engineering students, workforce, educators and the final decision makers themselves. It seems as if it is being taught like history and geography given the mindset of graduates from most of the portals of engineering schools. The whole concept of application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially the industry is never learnt, leaving aside doing away with it. Technology is brought down to a level of a standard mode of education for preferably an above average job.
The second variant of the technology mindset, the less said the better, that being; machinery and equipment developed from the application of scientific knowledge. Who wants to create any of these, become a cog in the wheel of red corporate machine and life would go fine. As it moves further, it further gets lost in the management education, jargon and practice and finally the Waterloo of all engineering education; employment at McKinsky’s and its ilk. This is clear indication of a lack of technology mindset.
The same trend continues in a totally different world, that of the start ups. Technological mindset is missing. Creation of a product in the true definition of the term does not exist. They have to be supported as if they are part of a big enterprise. The slog and effort of creating an enterprise is generally not to be seem. The clear cut dissonance of the product and the business is a very sad commentary on the way things are going.
It seems to be going the NGO way. Only a technology mindset would keep him wedded to finding solutions to real life problems. That is where the connect with the domain comes. The tech – domain crevices will not allow anything to happen. If technology mindset is not there, from where will you have the energy to keep pace with exponential technology and then keep rattling your brain further to find tech solutions out of it. Tech perseverance seems to have already become a lost trait.
EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES ARE A MIND GAME OF THE EXTRAORDINARY ONLY THE ONES WITH TECHNOLOGY MINDSET WOULD WIN.
