THE SPIRIT OF RG KAR AND THE ONES DEVOID…

The spirit of RG Kar is that we can create momentum, collaborate, sustain, face any number of the odds, fight against well entrenched adversities if the cause demands so, focused to the purpose, till it is achieved. Though the battle has been tough and arduous as it stands today, yet it is unknown what part of the journey has really been traversed. It is a battle against the ones who are devoid of everything this movement stands for, and be indifferent to literally anything and everything, as long as they carry on.

The tragedy of the matter is even if there is a genuine mass movement, they know how to tire it out and also to turn the tables against those who are desperately trying to make change happen. For them it is a bad patch which needs to be covered before everything becomes what they want. People have been playing in their hands since the onset of democracy. They have been successful in bringing RG Kar off the national agenda and hence they now have the comfort to treat it as a local issue now.

The disease that afflicts governance and the leaders who call the shots is that they are totally devoid of any human feelings, a concern for any cause, however grave. They bring the issue finally to you against me syndrome. It is never a collaboration for a cause or to make something happen together. The relationship which is developed, at times on the face of it, turns out to be so feeble that it breaks at the first whiff of air. The paternalistic mindset of the governments / leaders, that they are lords endowed to dispense whatever you ask for. While the pomp and show is of a level that they can deliver the world, in reality we have seen what has happened in the RG Kar case.

Various government agencies and public servants would appear off and on trying to facilitate your cause, but in reality everyone is either weakening your cause or trying to safeguard their position from a legal point of view. The RG Kar story has gone through all this. The current fast unto death hunger strike epitomises as to how little has been done so far and to what length the doctors can go to get their demands addressed. Breaking down the spirit of the people seems to be the only work of the governments and the political leaders. All demands of RG Kar and other resident doctors across W. Bengal is genuine and doable, more so in the backdrop of the ghastly case and if unattended speaks of the lowest ebb our political leadership, governments and all democratic structures have landed into.

IF SAFETY, SECURITY AND CONGENIAL WORK ENVIRONMENT CANNOT BE PROVIDED TO RESIDENT DOCTORS IN A COMPREHENSIVE MANNER, DOES IT NOT MEAN AN EXISTENTIAL CRISIS FOR HEALTHCARE?

Have a nice evening.
