UNPERTURBED, UNRUFFLED & IN CONTROL; PROFESSIONAL OR FAKE?
We all keep talking of issues and its handling, it might be in any area and in any nature of work, but most of times we talk of it in relation to governance. That gets connected to political leadership and the political executive and as a logical corollary, the government and its handling of any issue. It gains prominence on two counts; one is it impacts one and all and secondly, the issues have the capability of snowballing into proportions unknown. Most of our issues have become tinderboxes in the same manner. It can lead to any nature of horizontal extensions even beyond our imagination.
As a collateral damage, it brings down the government’s credibility of handling such nature of crisis and/or issues. We have been seeing any number of such issues and also innumerable crisis situations which hits the government on its face demanding answers and solutions, which have a direct bearing on our lives. Does the government take it head on? Do they have the expertise and if they do, can they apply their heads and heart to move in a positive direction towards finding a solution? Does the political leadership have the perseverance and relentless involvement before something fruitful comes out, in such vexed situations.
The political executive /PM,CMs, Ministers /spokespersons / bureaucrats et al who do not handle the situation themselves but are directly responsible, generally give statements regarding the crisis situation or the issue in progress. By their public domain exposition they seem to be ‘supposedly in control.’ The tone and tenor is maintained same in every situation. They look unruffled, unperturbed and in control. We have seen situations going out of hand, public policies going completely haywire and at times we don’t even know where the buck stops and who is actually responsible and accountable.
Under these circumstances and with the wisdom of hindsight, does this behaviour and expression thereof is real? If it is so, then in real terms it means they are professionals, know professional handling, can control things if they really go out of hand, have crisis management and contingency plans in plans which are executable. It also means that we will in nearly all cases get the desired results. With results being mostly contrary, the billion dollar question in public mind is that whether this stance displaying unruffled, unperturbed and in control behaviour real? If it is so, it is professionalism personified, if not, it is fake. Have we been facing this fake professional stance for a bit too long?
