VIDEO SURVEILLANCE – RESEARCH TO REALITY
If one pervasive technology which has not graduated to a level of professional excellence it’s the CCTV at the project level. It would be very difficult to find a public domain video surveillance project that has delivered in totality, of the right quality with no extension of project execution time and at a cost which can be substantiated. The operations are at a level where finding out whether all cameras are running fine is itself a challenge. The features the less said the better. Knowing of features and the technical specifications of the camera is like clearing the Civil Services Exam.
If ecosystem word cannot applied to some technology it is CCTV. The stakeholders come together as rank outsiders to a project; mostly big govt ones, with ambitious promises, actually to decide on their part of the booty. Completely unregulated, barley supervised, declaring the project complete and successful is itself a great challenge. From selection of cameras, bandwidth, video management software, analytics, audit, command center, forensics, protocols and above all seamless integration are all challenges in their own right besides different cumulative challenges the project poses. Right resources, licenses, operations and maintenance are other monumental challenges.
This is the real life problem we have set to solve, the genesis of Center for CCTV Research at RV College of Engineering, Bengaluru, India’s first, pioneering and all comprehensive research center for Video Surveillance, which would redefine this multi-billion dollar industry. CCTVs have become an integral part of our lives. To select, execute and utilise the CCTV networks in the best possible manner is the broad problem statement of this center. They can deliver way beyond we can imagine for multifarious needs, seamlessly; an investment worth its impact.
As a multi-stakeholder research facility it brings academia, researchers, industry and users within its fold, stitching executable technology solutions which India can be proud of. Given that we live in a Technology Immersion Age and a touch less and seamless one too, CCTVs have to be the force multipliers in whatever we do. Besides the technology solutions, it would elevate the whole CCTV ecosystem through ideally tailored capacity building programs. The Center is India’s First One Stop Knowledge & Expertise Repository on Video Surveillance.
CENTER FOR CCTV RESEARCH IS BOUND TO BE THE GAME CHANGER IN THE WORLD OF VIDEO SURVEILLANCE.
