ACTIONABLE POINTS, CLEAR ACHIEVEMENTS & IMPACT
Our professional world unfortunately is not what we make it out to be in nearly all the sectors of our existence. Communication as an element which the corporate world boasts off and so do the persons in the public domain, has never gone through any scrutiny. What is told is accepted. Whatever is the music to the speaker’s ears and the professional’s direction and customisation is allowed to pass. Meandering is all our communication and work has become a way of life.
When we deal with professionals of even ten or twenty years, the story has the same introduction; the parameters have to explained again, the generic part of that work and motivation goes as a compliment and also your greatness of how you have been doing things for all your career and life. Why do need meetings / reviews / briefing et al of more than 15-20 mins? Actionable points is the approach we have to create and practice in our professional life first and then in personal life, as far as feasible.
Presently the build up is what you indulge in, may it be ppt, mail or whatever, hopefully you reach actionable points stage faster. When all belong to the same activity / work / project, they ought to know where they are positioned at that point in time. It is their job to be abreast, do the preparation so that they ask the right questions / be a value add to the meeting. The presenter takes off from the word go, cut and dry, points covered, acted upon, any failings and the actionable points to follow. Discussed whatever required and be done with.
